FAQs

Where does Reviseaway take place and how many students can attend?

This year Reviseaway is starting with small groups to the small village of Montriond near Morzine. We will run four trips over the summer to Montriond near Morzine. Each trip will last four days and three nights and will have 8 spaces.

How do I book?

Parents should send an email to info@reviseaway.com and if places are available a booking form will need to be completed as well as a non-refundable deposit.

What is the accomodation like for my child?

Francesca visits all accommodation before booking a trip. Depending on the size of the group hotels or chalets are booked with the student's needs in mind. Students will usually share a room with one other student. Francesca has worked in a boarding school before and boarding school-style routines are put in place whilst students are away. In France hotels or chalets are usually in dorms of two. In Italy hotels tend to be booked in advance and rooms of two or three.

Who will teach and mentor my child?

Reviseaway has a mix of qualified teachers, coaches and volunteers. Everyone who works for Reviseaway has been DBS checked and has had experience in teaching or coaching. The teachers have been trained and taught in schools themselves as well as prepared GCSE students for exams. Francesca makes sure there are both written and speaking activities for language learning. Reviseaway is predominantly a language retreat but if there is demand additional payments for Maths, English and Science as well as other subjects can be requested and will be facilitated depending on accompanying staff.

What should my child pack?

• Casual clothes (jeans/ comfortable trousers and tops)

• Outdoor shoes/boots

• Waterproof

• Sunhat/cap/suncream

• Underwear/ sanitary products

• Nightwear and toothbrush/toothpaste

• Revision materials ( pens/highlighters/notepads/ ipad or computer if needed)

• A water bottle

• Trainers

• Gym clothes for tennis/yoga and other sports

• Reading book

• Diary

• Chargers/adaptors

How old are the students who attend these retreats or trips?

Reviseaway accomodates students from Year 7 (Age 11) to Year 13 (Age 17). There are certain year groups that will be allowed to register dependent on the week. This allows groups of students to come with friends or classmates and helps with tutoring and teaching levels.

Can students use the Internet or wifi?

Yes all accomodation has wifi and phones and Ipads may be used especially if a child needs to contact home or access some revision material. There are certain times when technology must be put away and use of technology is up to the Trip Leader.

Are the lessons like school?

Teachers accompany the trips so some lessons can be a bit like school especially if there is a grammar or writing focus. However there is a big focus on how to use language in the real world and so lots of emphasis is placed on speaking such as ordering in a restaurant or general conversation.

Will I have to do homework?

Reviseaway doesn't set homework for students as the evenings are times to relax and enjoy each others company. There are times when only the Target language is spoken and in the evening students will be encouraged to write about their day in the language they are practicing. At the end of the trip they also will write a postcard home or to someone they'd like.

Will my child need a visa?

No. All Reviseaway locations are in Europe and travellers with a British passport can stay witout a visa for under 90 days.

Which activities are included?

The activities depend on the trip week and destination. For example, this summer in Morzine tennis, swimming and yoga are included and students are encouraged to participate as much as they can. Other trips could be more city-based in which case the activities could be more based around tourism and culture such as museums or learning about local cuisine.

My child would like to come with a friend is this possible?

We understand being away from home can be frightening for the first time especially on a child's first residential trip. Therefore in the application form it is possible to put the name of a friend and Reviseaway will try to accomodate if the week allows.

How do I apply?

Parents can email info@reviseaway.com and will be sent an application form. Parents then need to fill in important details for their child to be considered. Depending on space the child will then be added to a particular week or put on the waiting list depending on the interest. Francesca will try to get back to all questions as quickly as she can (within seven days usually) but also runs a Department and teaches in a school so parents must be aware of this if they do not receive immediate replies.

I have missed out and all the spaces are taken what should I do?

There is always a waiting list and sometimes space becomes available. We will let you know as soon as possible if this is the case.

My child is nervous about taking part in activities

No one will be forced to do any activity they don't want to do. Children are encouraged to get involved and in some cases walking is essential to get to different locations but children have the option to take part in activities such as tennis. There is always a member of the team ready to accompany or support a child at all times and offer words of encouragement.

Is my child insured?

There is travel insurance including medical cover as part of the trip but we always recommend parents to get out their own insurance as extra precaution whilst away.
